Today I came full circle. Never in my life would I expect what innocently happened as I reached for the volume set of books given to me in my younger days having no memory of when, but always taking them in my boxes of books to keep - never opened, until today. I remember very clearly where I was at in life then. I lived in Whispering Brook in Portage, Michigan. I worked 50-60 hour weeks managing both Jo-Ann Fabrics at that time, hiring potential managers off of Western's campus and training them, training the district on merchandising and loss...
Caring for our textile tools can make a huge difference in enjoying or being frustrated with the process. Here is a simple maintenance tip for shears and cutters* that are held together with screws, not nylon washer assemblies. They are typically steel. This can also be used on rotary cutter assemblies when blades are being replaced/removed. Using 50 Wt household sewing machine oil, open the shears as shown in the middle of the photo and apply a generous drop above and below the screw assembly, turning over and applying on the underside the same. Slowly rock the scissors while open...
Ever since I can remember my dreams from my childhood, I used to dream of making fabric. I believe this started when I saw my older sister (7-8 at the time, me 4-5) in Girl Scouts as a Brownie weaving on a backstrap loom, the troop leader said I was too young. It's simple - go under Custom Services and select how many skeins you wish to have wound into cakes/center pull balls prior to your final checkout, add to...
I realize this is a topic we always expect others to go thru quietly, and for the most part we all do. Don't post it here they say, because this is all about business without being a business, being personal without being too much. I beg to differ. If you are here, you most likely know me beyond the casual owner of River's Edge Fiber Arts. You selected this section because you wanted to know about my business, me or something similar. So here you are and here I write from my heart. Honoring those who have passed by caring...
